The Evolution of the Car : The Coolest Car Technology So Far

From Model T to Electric: The Evolution of the Car
Automobiles have transformed dramatically since the first mass-produced Ford Model T car hit the consumer market about 104 years ago. But the evolution still continues, with gas-guzzling vehicles slowly turning into energy-efficient roadsters.

UK-based company Car Loan 4U has released an infographic highlighting the history of the car and it's transformation into what we see in vehicles today.
The infographic highlights some of the most fuel-efficient cars in production, from the 2012 Chevrolet Volt to the Ford Focus E (76 miles) and the Renault Fluence Z.E. (115).

It also hints at the industry ahead: "In the near future, electric cars will outperform petrol cars in every area. The only thing that stands in the way of electric cars total domination is us. At current adoption rates, by the year 2030, only 7.1% of the car-driving population of the planet will own an electric car."

New York Auto Show: The Coolest Car Tech So Far
Here's that flying car you've been dreaming of your whole life. From aircraft company Aircraft company Terrafugia comes the Transition car, which touts four wheels, two wings and the ability fly two people anywhere.

Viper SRT

The Viper, which hasn’t been in production since 2010, is making a gallant return with the SRT Viper. With a powerful 8.4 liter V10 engine and a much lighter engine, the Viper features various traction and cruise control, as well as stability control to help drivers better maneuver the vehicle. It also comes with a connectivity system called Uconnect Access, which provides drivers with access to more information, emergency services, entertainment such as SiriusXM and improved graphics.

Nissan NV200: The Taxi of Tomorrow
Nissan displayed a model of the future taxi of New York City, boasting features from electrical outlets and USB ports to a dedicated air conditioner that can be controlled by the passenger.

BMW i8 Hybrid Concept

Although BMW's i8 Spyder was not officially at the New York Auto Show, it did have a concept of its i8 plug-in hybrid concept.

Mercedes-Benz SL65 AMG Roadster

The vehicle will feature the future smart glass technology called "Magic Sky Control" that can tint a sun roof with the tap of a button. Meanwhile, waving your foot under the front of the car will pop open the truck.

Mercedes-Benz GLK350

The Mercedes GLK 350 -- a luxury sport utility vehicle -- will come in two options: one with a V6 engine and another with a fuel-efficient diesel engine.

The Porsche Boxster, Cayenne Diesel SVU
The 2013 Porsche Boxster-- which features a 260-horsepower flat-six engine -- is the company's third-generation model and the first all-new design since its debut in 1996. A spokesperson told us that they are working on introducing more in-car technology to its existing entertainment system, including a feature that allows vehicle owners to take photos from their phone and display them on the navigation screen.

The Cayenne Diesel
Porsche also displayed its first-ever diesel engine vehicle launched on Monday night in the U.S. The Cayenne Diesel SUV, which is 30% more fuel efficient than an equivalent gasoline engine, can travel 28 miles per gallon of fuel.

BMW’s much-hyped i8 Spyder may not be at the 2012 New York International Auto Show after all, but that doesn’t mean the event isn’t bursting at the seams with an impressive roster of snazzy new cars bristling with high-tech features.

From the ultra-sleek, super fast SRT Viper sports car, to the Mercedes-Benz G-Class fuel-efficient SUV with a “magic sky” sun roof — to even a flying car — manufacturers pulled out all the stops with their latest designs during a Tuesday press preview.
